Editorial: The right decisionPOSTED: 08/14/15 9:39 AM
Our initial reaction to MP Tamara Leonard’s initiative to ban Straight Outta Compton was one of disbelief, but we quickly changed our mind when we realized her motivation.
Hollywood dropped disaster movies after 9/11 and with the shooting of police Officer Benjamin we have in a way, though on a different scale, our own 9/11.
The wounds of this crime are still raw and they will remain in that condition for a long time – probably until the appeals for the suspected shooter have run out.
It makes therefore perfect sense to adjust the cinema’s program. Those who want to see the raw reality depicted in Straight Outta Compton will surely find a way to see it.
For now, we don’t need this and the cinema made the right decision to honor MP Leonard’s request.
