Justice as soon as possible. That sounds like a good concept especially for youngsters that have committed a crime.
The question is of course what this will look like in practice. It is all fine and dandy to drag youngsters as soon as possible after they have been caught into a court room and deal with them. That makes the link between crime and punishment easy to understand.
But then? St. Maarten still has a chronic shortage of prison cells – a situation that must be tackled in a hurry, otherwise swift justice will backfire once youngsters discover that they have been found guilty and that they will get a phone call sometime in the future to come and serve their time.
