The attempt by the defense to get King murder-suspect Meyshane J. out of jail is an ingenious one, for sure, but it is also a move that has caused a lot of justified unrest among family and friends of the murdered American couple.

The appeals court will rule on the request to release the suspect on February 20, and until that time many are holding their breath – including the investigators that have worked hard to solve the crime.

We estimate the chances that the suspect will walk slim at best, but there is still another element to be considered: the idea that the murder-suspect will be immediately deported upon his release. It could very well be that the authorities will keep him in immigration detention – if it would come to that – and that he will be delivered to the court when the trial starts on April 9.

Letting someone who has confessed to gruesome murders escape his day in court is about the worst thing that could happen to our country.
