Editorial: Progress in the Helmin Wiels murder casePOSTED: 09/24/13 3:24 PM
The Wiels-investigation finally seems to be making serious progress. Obviously the investigators have not been idle since the May 5 assassination of the Pueblo Soberano-leader, but the lack of news has led people to believe until recently that this case would be buried and simply fade away.
Investigators have said repeatedly that they have “a good picture” of the people (or individual, that remains unclear) behind the assassination.
Getting to the mastermind and bringing this character to justice is crucial for Curacao’s future. If the Wiels-case is not brought to a fair and satisfying conclusion, citizens will not only lose their confidence in the judicial authorities, they will also lose their confidence in the democratic system that rules the country. Nobody in his right mind wants to let that happen.
