There is a big difference between being right and getting what you are entitled to. An American woman who works as a sales associate in St. Maarten found that out – after many others before her – when she sought admittance by right to the territory under the Dutch-American Friendship Treaty.
No cigar the justice ministry said, and its attorney repeated all the old arguments that have been defeated in court already many times.
The employee went to court where the Justice Ministry suffered its umpteenth defeat on this issue. The stubborn resistance against the rights Americans derive from this treaty starts looking like professional harassment. The court cases are also a waste of time and money.
The Grant-case should be the last one where the government fights a lost cause at the expense of earthlings who have every right to be here. That would be a nice example of getting it right.
