Members of the King-family once more showed what they are made off when they visited Chief Commissioner Peter de Witte to express their gratitude for the way law enforcement handled the investigation into the gruesome murders of Michael and Thelma King last year.

The family remains firm in its belief that the murders could have happened anywhere and that as such, St. Maarten is not to blame. The Kings will keep coming back to St. Maarten and they also tell their friends only good stories about our island.

That is appreciation coming straight from the heart, and as such, it is priceless. The Kings not only value the efforts by the police, but also the way the prosecutor’s office handled the case and – even more – the way this office dealt with the family.

All this is happening while the family still has some heart-wrenching weeks ahead of it, until the verdict on appeal is there on December 30. Will it be life imprisonment or only 30 years for Meyshane Johnson? That is the question – and for the family, only life imprisonment is good enough.
