Editorial: Not good enough (steps to prevent drugs smuggling in luggage of unsuspecting InselAir travellers)

Reports that employees at the airport may be involved in smuggling illegal drugs in the luggage of unsuspecting InselAir passengers is alarming and not just for the obvious reason. If such unscrupulous employees are able to get drugs in the airport and onto the airplane, this suggests that despite all the stringent checks passengers must undergo since 9-11 there is still a loop hole for trouble to occur if airport employees are not subjected to equally strict security checks. It is encouraging that steps are taking place to prevent further cases of drugs being smuggled in passengers’ luggage but that is not good enough. Measures must be introduced to ensure that employees working at the airport are screened when leaving and entering the airport on a regular basis to avoid dangerous situations.
