Editorial: Nice touch

Predictably, the parliament voted yesterday unanimously in favor of a motion against André Bosman’s initiative law to restrict the admission of citizens from St. Maarten, Curacao and Aruba to the Netherlands.

While Members of Parliament cried foul with references to slavery, the Second World War, racism, hypocrisy and what have you there was one man outside the building with a completely different opinion: Miguel Arrindell. (See his opinion letter here).

The frequent letters-to-the-editor writer saw an opportunity to declare his support for Bosman and to condemn the lackluster attitude of successive local governments towards the protection of the rights of indigenous St. Maarteners.

Nice touch, we thought, even though we doubt that the parliament will see things his way.
