With the arrest of former MFK Minister of Finance George Jamaloodin the Wiels murder investigation in Curacao is getting uglier by the day. Two weeks ago, Carlos Monk said he is a suspect in this investigation as well. Monk was a Pueblo Soberano-minister in the Schotte-cabinet, but he turned to Schotte’s MFK after the 2012 elections.

With these two suspects in the picture something is becoming clear what many people must have thought for a long time – that the order for the Wiels assassination came from his political adversaries in the corner of former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte.

After all, when Wiels won the elections in 2012, he sent Schotte packing in the formation talks for a new government, thereby blocking Schotte’s ambition to return as prime minister.

There is also Wiels’s unfinished investigation into what he labeled “illegal sms-lotteries” organized by Robbie dos Santos – a financial backer of the MFK.

Curacao has a lot of soul searching to do if it ever wants to get over this ugly period in its history. That process will not end with a possible conviction of the so-called “intellectual principals” (define intellectual). That will be only the beginning.
