Editorial: Caught in limbo

That the St. Maarten Tourist Authority is slow in becoming a reality is an insult to the term understatement. The Tourist Statistical Information system TSIS is equally caught in limbo.

What is wrong with all these people who are supposed to make these initiatives a reality? We know that TSIS has become the victim of outright sabotage from the immigration department and – believe it or not – the Tourist Bureau that would be the first one to benefit from the system’s output.

But the Tourist Authority? Minister after minister has made bold statements about this body that is designed to replace the tourist Bureau and put some jazz the organization. Deadline after deadline has gone by and board members have been nominated.

Everything is in place and still nothing happens. Now the Tourist Authority has become a priority of our new Tourism Minister Ted Richardson. He’ll need all the support he can get.
