Our political parties are ignoring the rules the Ministry of Justice has issued for the election campaign practically across the board.

We have seen billboards at roundabouts, flags on the Prince Bernhard Bridge and banners on streetlight poles.

Now the justice ministry has to show that it has real teeth and that the conditions Minister Richardson established in a general permit for political parties are of a better quality than toilet paper.

Parties are breaking the law on a grand scale. That is even more embarrassing because the candidates for these parties are aiming for a seat in parliament – a position that gives elected politicians the power to write and approve (or disapprove of) legislation.

To ask the electorate for its vote to such an esteemed position by breaking the law is beyond ironic.
