Dynamics Track Club training at cricket field

St. Maarten – Dynamics Track Club has decided to use the cricket field in Cul de Sac because they can no longer access the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex so they can stay in mental and physical shape. The athletes are in a race for space at the new venue but it gives them somewhere to train and Dynamics club’s leader Abdule Wathley does not believe it will affect their ability to train.

“Most of the athletes in the Caribbean prepare on grass and I see that as an advantage because the grass is softer on the soles of the feet,” Wathley said.

Dynamics Track Club was formed four years ago with just three members. It now has over 25 members and first came to prominence in 2010 at an invitational meet in Anguilla. They’ve also won the U-17 and U-20 sprint doubles in Curacao and produced an athlete that placed sixth in the Carifta Games.

“That was not our first outing, but that was our highest so far and we hope to send more athletes to the Carifta Games this year,” Wathley said.

Preparations have already started to prepare for the 2012 Carifta Games. One of the ways for them to warm up is preparing for the January 21 invitational track meet in St. Martin.

Wathley also announced that he is not enthusiastic about increasing the membership until he can get more support from the private sector.

“Myself and mr. Fontaine will prefer to concentrate on techniques with the limited resources we have. Without Fontaine, we would not have been able to get this far,” Wathley added.
