St. Maarten – A six member group from Dutch daily De Telegraaf arrive in St. Maarten Friday to begin work on a story about the island and Tamarind Hotel. The crew includes a journalist, a professional photographer and four models who will stay at the resort for eight days.
Bringing in the crew is part of the new management’s attempts to restore the resort’s reputation and open it up to a broader market. De Telegraaf prints 1.5 million copies per day and the management believes opening their doors to the Dutch newspaper will allow people to see that they have improved the property.
“The breezes are flowing light and warm through our improved gardens. May it endure for all of us in the days and years ahead,” the hotel’s Managing Director Paul Ingram stated in a release.
Tamarind is favored amongst tourists because of the budget prices that people pay, but some commenter’s on www.tripadvisor.com urged people to stay away. Based on their comments the property is ranked 9 out of 13 by the website.

LIKE TO COMMENT ON THE ABOVE ARTICLE IN “TODAY” RE:TAMERIND HOTEL. MY WIFE AND I HAVE STAYED THERE ON HOLIDAY FOR THE LAST 18 YEARS. OUR FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT THE TIME PORTA PLAUSANCE WAS GETTING FINISHED. THAT IS OUR FAVORITE PLACE TO STAY AND WE HAVE STAYED AT CAPTIAN OLIVERS, BELL AIR, LOOKED AT HOLLAND HOUSE AND SEVERAL OTHERS. IT IS NOT AS EASY ANY MORE TO GET A ROOM BECAUSE IT IS SO POPULAR. COST IS ONE THING, BUT IT IS EASY TO GET TO PHILLIPSBERG. ALSO, THE PEOPLE THERE IN CHARGE,EVEEN THOUGH THEY HAVE CHANGED, HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY PLEASANT AND HELPFUL. WE ARE STAYING THERE AGAIN IN LATE JANUARY FOR A WEEK. IF WE WERE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT SOMETHING IT WOULD BE THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE THAT THE SHIPS BRING IN. THEY SMUTHER THE TOWN AND THE BEACHES. HOWEVER THAST IS GOOD FOR YOUR ECONOMY. I WOULD HOPE IT DOESN’T MAKE THE ISLAND IMPLODE. WE LOVE THAT PLACE. THANKS
