GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Heineken Regatta 2012 is attracting a significant increase in participants from the Netherlands. Yearly promotion of the Regatta in the Netherlands begins when the last boats cross the finish line.
ATP Event Experts and Sunsail have been the leading promoters for years but other parties, like Kras.nl, which is part of TUI – the largest tour operator in the Dutch market, – have shown interest in bringing more sailing enthusiasts to what they believe is an event that has high potential and special character.
Kras.nl’s involvement has already led to ArkeFly deciding to make an extra stop on St. Maarten just before the regatta begins. This will bring over 100 people including the Comic Folkloristic Brass Band ‘De Kikvorschen’ to the island. The band was founded in 1927 and has promised to exhilarate participants and spectators.
“I am very happy with the increased interest for the Regatta’s as it shows in general an increased awareness for the destination St. Maarten out of the Dutch Market. The island itself is doing a great job in using events such as the Heineken Regatta to become known and recognized worldwide. The Heineken Regatta is also recognized here in the Netherlands as being one of the best organized regatta’s known here,” Bart Schüller of the St. Maarten Tourist Office in the Netherlands stated in a press release.
Plans are also being developed to promote the island’s other traditional regattas.
