Dutch government reserves 428 million for Kingdom Relations in 2012

THE NETHERLANDS – The Dutch government has reserved 428 million guilders for Kingdom Relations in its budget for 2012 and will continue the theme of Promoting the Autonomy of the Kingdom Partners. This policy ideal is part of leaked budget documents.

The Multi-Annual Budget shows that the amounts reserved for Kingdom Relations will be significantly reduced after 2012 because the government will give less development aid now that the status of the islands has changed.

The leaked documents also reveal that money budgeted for 2010 was transferred to 2011. Part of the money will be used to drag a submarine cable through the Windward Islands and to recover an aircraft that crashed off the coast of Bonaire in 2009. Money has also been reserved to fund the Pension Fund Caribbean Netherlands.

Full details of the proposals are expected next week Tuesday when the budget is officially presented.
