Dutch faction leaders press Curacao colleagues on Rosenmöller’s report

WILLEMSTAD – Dutch faction leaders have encouraged Curacao’s parliament to carry out an investigation in corruption allegations in the Schotte-cabinet. They based their request on the findings of a report by a committee chaired by Paul Rosenmöller. The document’s conclusions include a recommendation to install a committee of wise men to review the screening process.
The Parliament of Curacao has already discussed the report and a majority called it a trashy document that should be thrown in the garbage. Hearing a request from Dutch MPs to follow the report’s findings prompted ire from Curacao MPs.
MFK faction leader Dean Rozier, who chairs the committee on Kingdom Relations, said Curacao no longer feels welcome in the Kingdom. Pueblo Soberano faction leader Helmin Wiels took it further.
“This one way direction in the Kingdom must stop and Curacao must become independent,” Wiels said.
Man faction leader Eunice Eisden called Rosenmöller’s report a tabloid sheet with 40 unnamed sources. She also said that parliament had already discussed the report and that taking a decision now to follow it would be undemocratic.
Green Left faction leader Jolande Sap was one of those who urged the MPs act by saying, “Dirty laundry must not be kept inside. It should be washed and dealt with.”
