St. Maarten – The Dutch delegation spearheaded by Prime Minister Mark Rutte was back in St. Maarten on Saturday. In the morning Rutte paid a visit to the police station, for a meeting with Chief Commissioner Peter de Witte, Commissioner Carl John and Public Prosecutors Hans Mos and Karola van Nie.

The prosecutor’s office made a presentation about the penal code and issues concerning the youth, assisted by the director of the court of Guardianship Richelda Emanuel. Part of the presentation was the Unicef report about the position of children in St. Maarten.

After the presentation, the delegation paid visits to underprivileged neighborhoods in Middle Region, Dutch Quarter, Union Farm and Belvedere, guided by community police officer Rensley Henson.

In Belvedere, the party walked Happy Estate to the Johan Cruyff court and from there on to the border monument.

The delegation was accompanied by amongst others Justice Minister Dennis Richardson, Chief Commissioner Peter de Witte, Chief Prosecutor Hans Mos, and youth prosecutor Karola van Nie. After their stop at Belvedere, the delegation paid a visit to the Pointe Blanche prison where they were received by Director Edward Rohan.

Around noon the delegation went to the harbor where Chief Executive Officer Mark Mingo received them for a tour of the facilities. Members of the press were not allowed to enter the port grounds, even though the official program noted that the media were welcome at this event. After lunch at the harbor, Rutte departed for the airport where Managing Director Regina Labega gave a presentation in the boardroom. At 4 p.m. the Dutch Prime Minister, the trade mission members and the rest of the delegation boarded an Air France plane for the return trip to the Netherlands.
