St. Maarten – After winning the Miss Dutch Caribbean Islands 2015 pageant in Saba on Thursday, one can only ask what’s next for St Maarten’s most accomplished contestant D’shnay Mathew York.
In addition to the coveted title and the rights to brag about it, York also won the best talent segment, Miss Photogenic and best interview. York was among the six contestants vying for the crown during the pageant at the Festival Village in The Bottom on Saba on Thursday night.
Tired from travelling but absolutely elated with her most recent accomplishments, York took some time to offer a few comments. “Going into the pageant, I had the same approach as usual, never underestimate anyone and do my absolute best. My confidence level was actually on a level of 100. I am ever so grateful for the titles I received, but there is always room for improvement,” she said.
The other contestants in the pageant which coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Carnival celebrations on the island were Radira Alberto from Bonaire, Jurnalis Henson from Curacao, Janirey Severino from St Eustatius and Shanette Carty from Saba.
In December of 2014, York emerged as the undisputed winner in the Miss Haynes Smith Caribbean Talented Teen Queen pageant in St Kitts and that epic event was followed by winning the crown in the teen pageant during this year’s Carnival celebrations in St. Maarten
York, who is quickly becoming an eloquent speaker with a personality to match her looks had the support of her modeling coach and trainer, her very supportive mother and close friends of the family during the trip to Saba.
In her conclusion, York said that she was happy to be able to represent the island and make the people of St Maarten proud after winning two pageants. However, she has decided to put pageantry on the back burner and concentrate on her academic pursuits.
