St. Maarten – A 32-year-old man hit a policeman with his car after ignoring a stop sign on Saturday afternoon between 4 and 5 p.m. He is now in custody on suspicion of attempted manslaughter. The policeman filed criminal charges against the man,

After he ignored the stop sign and knocked down the police officer, the man fled in the direction of Mary’s Fancy. Police chased the car into Saunders where they blocked the road.

In his attempt to maneuver past the police car the fugitive rammed the vehicle, causing severe damages. He then attempted to get away on foot but the police officers managed to arrest him. The man resisted arrest but he was quickly brought under control.

The wiring to the ignition of the car was cut, showing that it is probably stolen.

The driver is detained for questioning at the police station and the car has been confiscated for further investigation.
