Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort lectures at Black History Celebration

St. Maarten – “The 22ndannual Black History Celebration lecture will be delivered by Dr. Maria Cijntje-van Enckevort at the Jubilee Library, this Saturday at 8 p.m.,” Shujah Reiph, president of Conscious Lyrics Foundation said.

“Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort will address key aspects of Caribbean labor history, with historical and contemporary references to the labor process and economic development on the island,” Reiph continued.

“Labor, the cradle of our civilization,” is the theme of the Black History Celebration lecture, which is organized by the foundation.

Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort, who studied history at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, has been working in the education field in St. Maarten for over 30 years. She has authored and co-authored social studies publications for secondary schools on the island. “My main interests are history, philosophy, and Caribbean studies,” Dr. Cijntje-van Enckevort said.

The former Dean of the University of St. Martin has also presented papers at regional and international conferences.
