THE HAGUE – Minister Plenipotentiary Henrietta Doran-York welcomed the 31 newly arrived students from Sint Maarten at her Cabinet last Friday, where they spent the entire day receiving information on the various ways that the cabinet can be of assistance to them.
This includes introductions to the various Sint Maarten organizations in the Netherlands, and receiving information about housing and insurances. A representative of DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs – the agency that manages study loans) was also in attendance and provided the student with information about study financing.
The students updated the minister plenipotentiary on how they spent their first days in the Netherlands and how they were adapting so far. Life coach Edwina Hodge, gave key information to the students through interactive games, on how to cope with stress situations and attitude adjustments.
Doran-York said that the students guidance counselors Geesha Alaran-Williams and Xaviera Mc. Donald-Archangel, have been doing “a really terrific job” in preparation for the students’ arrival and that they are still working tirelessly to assure that the students settle in properly.
