St. Maarten – As a direct result of their overwhelming performances in the just concluded West Indies U-15 tournament, both Daniel Doram age 13 and Shaquille Martina have been included in the Leeward Islands team that will be competing in the West Indies U-19 tournament which will take place in Guyana from July 18 to August 16.

At age 13, Doram has become the youngest cricketer in the history of the regional U-19 tournament to represent St. Maarten at this level of the game. Doram’s selection has erased the record held by his team mate – Martina – who was selected to compete at the same level at age 14. Martina was amongst the top run scorers for the Leeward Islands and Doram was among the leading wicket taker for the Leewards. Both players will join the Leeward Islands team directly from Trinidad.

Doram’s parents – Jonah & Gilbertha Doram – are very happy with their son’s accomplishment. Martina’s mother Michelle was also happy that her son was reselected to the LICA U-19 team and she is confident of his chances of doing well this year. A broken foot ended his participation early in last year’s tournament.

The SMCA has wished the players much success in the tournament on behalf of the cricketing fraternity and expressed thanks to the sponsors who have contributed to the youth cricket development program over the years.

Present Coach Richie Singh also came in for high praise on the accomplishment of the young players while recognition is also due to former Coach Keith Carty and others who contributed towards the development of these players.
