Doodnauth to spearhead national team

POSTED: 10/3/12 12:57 PM

St. Maarten -A fourteen man squad led by Romain Doodnauth will be expected to hit the ground at a running pace when it goes up against archrivals Anguilla in three T/20 matches this upcoming Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Anguilla.
The 29-year-old left arm medium fast pace bowler and left hand batsman will have as his vice captain Colin Hamer, a 24-year-old right hand batsmen and leg break bowler, the first player to represent St Maarten in the West Indies first class tournament, Carib Beer 4 day series against Barbados
The other members on the 14 member squad are Sherwin Peters, Steven Evans, Akeem Charles, Lerry Baptiste, Shaquille Martina, Moreland Le Blanc, Damion Williams, Daryl Doram, Jean Rene Belizar, Marlon Brutus, Rasheed Pirkhan and Anil Persaud.
For the shorter version of the game where bowling is as important as batting, the selectors have included one fast bowler, one medium fast and four spinners and as long as they stick to the game plan, they can restrict the run rate tremendously.
In the batting line up, a lot will depend on the performances of the front order batsmen which includes the hard hitting, Steven Evans, a right hand batsman who can easily adopt a no nonsense approach to the game when it was necessary even at age 45.
Moreland Le Blanc, age 23 also represented the Leeward Islands and St Maarten. This right arm off break bowler who bats right handed can also be explosive if he gets a chance to settle down, but as a bowler and batsman he will be an asset to the team.
But the players who should not be overlooked are Lerry Baptiste who is considered to be very dangerous with the bat. Akeem Charles, Shaquille Martina, Anil Persaud, Damion Williams and Rasheed Pirkhan.
