St. Maarten – Going up against any team in the Leewards, Antigua & Barbuda have always been rated at the crowd favorites having won the most championship titles at any form of the game, but despite the fact that St Maarten has only defeated them once, team Captain Romain Doodnauth is confident that his team will make it to the finals in the Leeward Islands T/20 tournament.

But standing between the local team and the finals which is billed to take place on Saturday afternoon is the extremely balanced team from Antigua & Barbuda. “My team is operating as a unit, we have a good understanding among ourselves and we know the conditions here. It’s them that would have to make the necessary adjustments when they bat and field,” Doodnauth said.

Antigua & Barbuda easily won their best of three series in zone B by making light work of Montserrat, winning all three matches. But a lot will depend on the performances of Chad Thompson, a pacer and leg spinner Hayden Walsh Jr in the bowling department.

Ironically, Austin Richards Jr who is familiar with this ground along with some of the other players can be a detriment with the bat if he is allowed to shift into high gear. The same can be said about Devon Thomas, a hard hitter of the ball.

The first semi final game between Anguilla and St Kitts will bowl off weather permitting at 10.00am sharp and in the afternoon at 2.00pm, Antigua will go up against St Maarten in semi final number two.
