Dominican nationals parade through streetsPOSTED: 03/2/15 10:12 PM
St. Maarten —The Dominicano population in St. Maarten turned out in force yesterday to commemorate the independence celebrations of their country, which culminated locally with a parade through the streets of Philipsburg. The parade started in the vicinity of Le Grand Marche with participants sporting the colours of their national flag and singing and in some cases dancing through the streets, while crowds lined the streets on both sides.
The independence celebrations were observed throughout February with a number of activities, including the hoisting of the flag on Friday. To conclude this year’s activities, the road from le Grand Marche to the parking lot opposite the festival village was once again the hub of excitement as men, women and children of all ages adorned themselves in the traditional colors of the Dominican Republic for the annual independence parade in their second home to mark a notable event at home.
