Dog show in Nature Park on June 10

GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation holds its annual dog show on Sunday, June 10 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. at Seaside Nature Park with ribbons and trophies awarded based on overall condition and personality. An all-around trophy class will close the show.
“This will be our first year at the park and we are very excited at all the opportunities the location offers participating dog owners. Instead of the usual registration hour game or demonstration, early arrivals can explore the beautiful cliff trail or play with their dogs on the beach. Plus the show ring is entirely shaded which makes the summer date more bearable for the animals,” a release states.
Registration starts at 1:00 p.m. with the first class at 2:00 pm. This year, instead of the small-to-large dogs viewed throughout the afternoon, the order for judging will be random to make the event fairer to owners who have always had to wait a long time before their pets were presented. Novelty classes like best kiss and fastest eater will be tweaked in surprising ways to up their entertainment.
The entry fee is $10 ($5 for each additional dog) and entitles participants to all classes and activities. Spectators may enter free of charge and are encouraged to come out and cheer on their favorite canines. Food and drink will be provided by the varied menu of the park’s canteen. For further information call 520-8887.
