St. Maarten – Diesel and cooking gas will become cheaper on Wednesday when a reduction ordered by the Minister of Tourism, Economic, Traffic and Telecommunication Romeo Pantophlet takes effect. The prices of unleaded gasoline (2.49 guilders per liter) will remain unchanged.

Diesel will become 12 guilder cents cheaper as of Wednesday when it moves from 2.15 guilders per liter to 2.03 guilders per liter. The price of a 20 pound cylinder of cooking gas will be 9.50 guilders cheaper as it will go from 55 guilders to 45.50 guilders. The price of a 100 pound cylinder will be 12 guilders cheaper as it moves from 182 guilders to 170 guilders. Cooking gas that is purchased in bulk will be 11 guilder cents cheaper as it moves from 1.76 guilders per pound to 1.65 guilders per pound.

The decreases are being made because crude oil prices are falling as diplomats move closer to an agreement with Iran on its nuclear program. The prices are also falling because countries that are members of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (Opec) have decided to increase production.
