Detectives interrogate suspects who bought votes for UP

St. Maarten – The National Detective Agency (Landsrecherche) has started to interrogate suspects in the vote buying fraud-case from 2010. An attorney of one of the suspects, who declined to name any names, confirmed that the investigation is now underway and that the suspects the National Detective Agency are interrogating are on the buyer’s side.

In 2010, two police officers and a member of the volunteer corps VKS were arrested for selling their votes in the September 17 elections to the United People’s party of former Vice Prime Minister Theo Heyliger.

The police wrote a report about the involvement of its officers and handed it to the prosecutor’s office but for a long time it seemed that nothing would come of the investigation.
