Detective dies in motorcycle accident

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten – “This is a tragic incident for us.” Those were the words Police Spokesman Inspector Ricardon Henson used at least twice on Thursday to confirm that Detective Anthony Elisabeth had died in a road traffic accident on the Airport Road. Elisabeth succumbed to injuries he sustained after crashing his motorcycle into a bus.
Henson was not able to give many details at press time, having just arrived at the scene. He did confirm though, that the accident took place between the Red Cross and Uncle Harry’s.
“We are still investigating and I can’t really give you much detail because we’re not just looking at this as a traffic accident. This is also a tragic incident for us,” Henson said.
Elisabeth was riding a 1,000 cc red and white Yamaha YZF-R1 street bike that he reportedly reclaimed from a mechanic today. There was one other person riding with him on a separate motor bike, who came away from Thursday’s night’s accident without physical injury.
