St. Maarten – Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Cornelius de Weever has promised the truth will come out on why the Department of Labor Affairs has granted the majority of requests for work permits filed by the Mental Health Foundation. At least one is still pending and another was denied.
The announcement by the minister is a response to concerns expressed by Director of the Mental Health Foundation Eileen Healy during a Central Committee meeting on January 27. It also comes ahead of an urgent meeting the minister has requested with the managerial board.
“It is my opinion that the truth must be told. Without going into details I need to state my standpoint very clear. As long as this ministry is subsidizing any foundation they must adhere to the laws of the land. I have requested and received a complete review from the Head of Labor Affairs (Peggy Ann) Dross-Richardson regarding the work permits that were requested and this among other issues will be addressed with the board,” de Weever said.
