De Weever meets unions to discuss relationship

St. Maarten – Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Cornelius de Weever met with representatives of six unions and the Windward Islands Chamber of Labor Unions recently to discuss the agenda and some other pressing matters. The attending unions were WIFOL, WICLU, WITU, WIHCUA, SMCU and ASEWI.

The March 31st meeting was held at the government administration building and covered priority policies for 2011, the tripartite committee, the labor affairs agency and the tasks of the Department of Labor. It was convened by De Weever so he could get a sense of the current and future state of affairs as it concerns St. Maarten, the unions, laws, the labor situations, and what and how the working relationship buy roche valium online uk will be and/or can be improved. Other topics of interest that were discussed are the role of the Secretary General in the labor affairs situations and as it relates to dismissals, the laws as a new country, the new structure of the department, who is responsible for what, etc.

According to a statement from the Department of Communications De Weever told the unions that he wants to work with them in general and specifically in the Tripartite Committee in the interest of the people/workers of St. Maarten. He also stressed that he wanted to ensure that “the working community feels comfortable and confident that government is there to assist and to mediate as best as it can.”
