De Weever discusses policy agenda, work permits with businesses

St. Maarten – Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Cornelius de Weever met representatives of the business community in the Claude Wathey Legislative Hall on March 31. The introductory meeting covered the transition from government of the Netherlands Antilles to Country St. Maarten, the tasks of the Department of Labor as well as the tasks of the labor affairs agency, the Minister’s specific policy intentions in 2011 and the re-establishment of the Tripartite committee.

Parties also covered synchronization of policies across ministries, reducing bureaucracy and red tape and employment permits. Parties are to discuss these matters again in the tri-partite setting.

The meeting was attended by the Comprehensive Business Association (CBA), Indian Merchants Association (IMA), St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA), Chamber of Commerce, St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA) and the St. Maarten Time Share Association.
