WILLEMSTAD – During a fundraising dinner organized by the political party PAR Emily de Jongh Elhage announced that she will immediately resign as party leader and as member of the parliament in Curacao.

Her decision comes after the party lost 50 percent of its seats in parliament in last year’s October 19 elections. She was the last Prime Minister of the Netherlands Antilles and she was instrumental to making Curacao an autonomous country within the Dutch Kingdom.

De Jongh-Elhage is of Lebanese descent and a member of the Council of Women World Leaders, an International network of current and former female presidents and prime ministers. Its mission is to mobilize the highest-level female leaders globally for collective action on issues of critical importance to women and equal development.
