St. Maarten – The police officers that form part of St. Maarten’s Dare program hosts a song festival June 16, 2012 to raise money to buy school materials. The materials focus on providing information on why young people should avoid becoming involved with drugs.

The aim of the song festival is bringing children and fathers together and parents must compete with their child. The competition is split into two groups. Group A will be for children between four and nine years old and Group B will be for children between 10 and 14 years old. Contestants can register up until Friday using the registration forms that are available at the police station in Philipsburg.

“We’re trying to put more focus on fathers and promote the fun aspect of fathers doing something with their child. They are free to sing what they want, as long as there is no vulgarity, obscenity or promoting violence,” Dare St. Maarten President Dientje Muller said.
