St. Maarten – The school of liturgical and arts movements, Dance and Arts Dimensions Academy (DADA), will be hosting a Summer Activity Expo on June 23, at the Festival Village. It will be free of charge and caters to all age groups.
The purpose of the interactive and informative event is to encourage children and youths to get involved in activities that stimulate and encourage them to be agents for change in their community, become active and participate in positive activities. Because of the nature of the event, which showcases all that local foundations have to offer for the summer, persons will be exposed to a plethora of information from which to choose.
“This is a great opportunity to expose the community to local businesses, organizations and activity centers that are already doing awesome work on the island but are not as exposed. This expo gives everyone and equal opportunity to be counted,” a press release states
Voice of our Children Foundation, Ebony Steel Orchestra and Motiance Dance School are among those participating in the event, either through performance or by an information booth.
The event is expected to become an annual one, Inga Hendrickson-Brown, one of the instructors of DADA and coordinator for the expo explained. She added that her foundation saw the need to organize the exposition “because we realized that persons were not fully aware of what is available on the island or have not been fully exposed to the different child development and family oriented foundations. We wanted to bridge that gap where everyone can come out in one location.”

Several schools have already confirmed their participation in the event including the St.Maarten Academy, Victory Temple Christian Centre, Genevieve de Weever School, Methodist Agogic Centre and Sundial School.
DADA itself will put on two breathtaking performances on stage while visitors sample the food available at various booths or actively participate in games. Summer Activity Expo officially gets underway at 9:00 am and will last until 6:00 pm.
Hendrickson-Brown reasoned that because career responsibilities take up a lot of time, children are often neglected. Though this may not be intentional Hendrickson-Brown posits that every effort still needs to be made to ensure that family time is accommodated. The expo she said will give parents the unique opportunity to spend a day of fun and frolicking with their children in a holistic and conducive environment.
New Generation Status STM band and Omari Banks from Anguilla will also be featured at the expo while Zumba fitness exercises will be conducted.
Dance & Arts Dimensions Academy provides a year round Arts program in the areas of dance, media, vocals, theatre, music, and arts and craft founded on Christian principles. Hendrickson-Brown however noted that the foundation is open people from all strata of society, regardless of race, color or creed that have the desire to share in the foundation’s vision.
“In order to run anything on a whole, you have to have a passion and dedication for it. You also need to have people that work along with you; see the vision, believe in the vision and want to see you become successful. With this event, we have the opportunity to pull the community together; it really takes a village to raise a child.”
The foundation is located at the Yogesh Commercial Complex opposite Mark’s Place restaurant.
Youth organizations from the French and Dutch sides of the island that are interested in setting up booths for the Summer Activity Expo are asked to contact DADA on email at dance.da85@gmail.com or telephone numbers 523-4436/ 522-5801.
