St. Maarten – Minister of Finance Hiro Shigemoto has been informed by his counterpart on Curacao – George “Jorge” Jamaloodin that the government of Curacao will name its candidate for the Chairman of the Board of the Supervisory Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Curacao and St. Maarten (CBCS) on Friday, June 17. Jamaloodin’s letter is dated June 7.

“I am looking forward to getting this concluded along with my colleague from Curacao where the CBCS can then move forward in handling its own business operations accordingly and dealing with pending matters. Based on a political decision that has been taken, the process can then start for St. Maarten to have its own full-fledge independent financial institution and have that in place by January 1, 2012,” Shigemoto said Tuesday.

Shigemoto had informed Jamaloodin, in a letter dated May 30, 2011, that St. Maarten was proposing Hassink and requested Curacao submit its candidate’s name and credentials by June 6. The letter was a follow-up to a letter dated May 10, 2011 from Minister Jamaloodin to discuss the chairmanship position.

Shigemoto’s letter on May 30 also covered the current developments in Curacao surrounding the CBCS and its current President – Emsley Tromp.
