Cricketers fight for national spot this weekend

St. Maarten – A Colin Hamer 11 will take on a Romain Doodnauth 11 beginning today for a spot on the national selection that will participate in the Nagico 2011 One Day tournament. The Nagico sponsored tournament begins in eight days.

The two selections will play two games. The first 30 over encounter will bowl off at 1:00 p.m. today. On Sunday the teams will meet in a 50 over encounter that will begin at 10:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Charles Vlaun Cricket Ground.

The Hamer 11 (Team A) includes Sherwin Peters, Gregorio Ritchie, Akeem Charles, Damien Williams, Lerry Baptist, Damion Beckford, Kenroy David, Oswald Henville, Arif Khan and Darryl Duram. The players in the Doodnauth 11 are Shaquille Martina, Sheldon Le Blanc, Cedric Fenelon, Anil Persuad, Lionel Ritchie, Joel Brown, Marlon Brutus, Daniel Duram, Jean Rene Belizar, Isis Othman and Mohit Hingorani.

Based on their performance in the two matches the 22 men will be whittled down to a team of 14 to form the national selection to the Nagico Tournament. The selection will be announced on Wednesday.
