St. Maarten – Even when things looked dismal after batting first and posting a low score of 137, cricket fans that were assembled at Quality Snacks on the Pondfill were fully supportive of the efforts by the West Indies and when they realized that victory was in sight, they found it hard to contain their excitement.
It was truly an electric atmosphere as the Shrilankan wickets tumbled one after the other to give the West Indies their first world title in 33 years and that in itself was highly appreciated by the gathering and by extension all supporters of the winning team.
So moved by the victory of the West Indies team, the manager of Quality Snacks, George Semple immediately placed a bottle of Hennessy on the counter. That drink was on the house and that was his way of saying thanks to the people who came out and supported his bar.
