WILLEMSTAD/GREAT BAY – The President of the Common Court of Justice Lisbeth Hoefdraad swore in the three members of the Council for Law Enforcement on Friday. The three members are Glenn Camelia (Curacao), Franklyn Richards (St. Maarten) and Jacques van Eck (on behalf of the BES-islands).
The new Council is charged with inspecting the various organizations within the justice system and judicial cooperation between countries. The organizations that will be inspected include the Police, the Public Prosecutor, the police training school, prison, detention centers, the probation office and the judicial functions of the Coast Guard. The Council has begun the necessary preparations and is expected to become operational during the course of this year.
