Council of Ministers to hear from Vromi today

POSTED: 10/25/12 12:19 PM

St. Maarten – An extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers (CoM) has been planned for today where the Ministry of Vromi will provide an update on the results of preliminary hearings that were held for the different zoning plans and the zoning plans themselves. The hearings were suspended close to two months ago, when parliamentarians summoned Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for Vromi William Marlin to present his zoning plans to the legislature before going to the public with them.
Marlin is still to do so but yesterday, Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams said that “This is the first time that the Council of Ministers will be taking note of the proposed plan for zoning and at the same time receive the feedback that has been given to the ministry as they presented several plans to the public.”
The plans were already presented to the public and Wescot-Williams has continuously maintained that the CoM, nor herself, are not privy to all initiatives ministries undertake.
In the case of the inquiry at the Ministry of VROMI into who gave permission for sand from the Harbour dredging project to be relocated to the a section of the Great Salt Pond for the construction of a cricket stadium and drag racing strip, the PM said that she still had no information on the status of the investigation.
She said that no formal proposal came to the Council of Ministers either with regard to these two projects.
“So if anyone were to ask me about details for example about financing and if it not government financing then who is doing so, I couldn’t give them an answer for the simple reason that I have not seen the dossier,” the prime minister stated.
