Conquerors squeeze in A division finals

St. Maarten – Up to the penultimate over in the final semi final match in the A division, the MNO Spartans were in sight of certain victory, but a tricky delivery from Lerry Baptist in the 5th ball of the over turned the tables to win by 6 runs and 49 balls to spare.
It was the same Baptist that provided the spine of the Conquerors inning when he struck 67 runs after facing 80 deliveries batting for 101 minutes. That superb spell was spiked with 4 fours and a six until he was out LBW off the bowling from Darrell Doram.
Also playing a supportive roll was Merlin Liburd, who was bowled by Sherwin Peters on 52 facing 78 deliveries and batting for 95 minutes and they were the players that provided the foundation for the Conquerors inning which had a total of 18 fours and one six.
Chasing 185 to win, the MNO Spartans faltered in their attempt to advance to the finals. Akeem Charles, the star player for the Spartans was in sight of what would have been remembered as a brilliant century. But his decision to be a stroke player and not a run getter cause his team the game.
The Spartans were off to a rough start when Gregorio Ritchie, who opened the batting with Peters offered an irresponsible shot and was caught by J Simonds from the bowling of Romel Haynes for no score.
Peters, the lanky right hander was just settling in when he was caught by Simonds also from the bowling of Haynes on 31. Robinson Monlouis who was caught by Q Haynes off the bowling from Shameer Baux on 13, Kacey Carty, caught by Liburd from the bowling of baux on 11, Daniel Doram who was brilliantly caught by Liburd from the bowling of V Singh for no score, Darryll Doram who was out LBW from the bowling of Baptist on 11. Bowling for the Conquerors, Haynes finished with 3 for 40, Baux had 2 for 52 and Singh had 2 for 32. They will now face the Nagico team in the finals at a date yet to be announced.
In the game played last Saturday, the Everest Cricket Club won by 8 wickets and 54 balls to spare when they went up against the KFC Twisters who were 178 all out after 29.3 overs from the stipulated 30 over encounter.
The 68 run father and son partnership between Keith and Kacey Carty give the Twisters a solid lead. The younger Carty was first to go, caught by Steven Evans the keeper off the bowling from Shaquille Martina on 27 and the father was caught by Jean Rene Belizar, off the bowling from Mrinal Wadhwa, on 46 with the score pushed to 82.
The inning took a downhill spiral after that second wicket, Moreland Le Blanc was bowled by Marlon Brutus on 20, Damien Beckford was run out by Brutus on 10, Joel Brown was stumped by Evans, off the bowling from Chetram Ram on 5, Arif Khan was bowled by Ram for no score, Mohit Hingorani was not out on 17, Algis jack was run out by P Deonarine on 20, Mervin Randolph was run out for no score and Bevon Williams was out LBW off the bowling from Ram on 2.
Chasing 179 to win, turned out to be an easy task for the Everest CC who lost 2 wickets in the process. Martina was first to go, caught by Hingorani from the bowling from Le Blanc on 17 and D Jaimangal was caught by Daniel Doram, off the bowling from Le Blanc on 10. Evans remained unbeaten with 123 which included 13 fours and 6 sixes from 79 balls along with Anil Garib who was also not out on 15. The finals in the B division will be decided after the matches scheduled for this coming weekend.
