MARIGOT, St. Martin – Alain Richardson, President of the Collectivité d’Outre Mer de Saint Martin joined leaders on the Dutch side in offering condolences to the King family. In a statement issued yesterday, Richardson offered the condolences on behalf of the people of the Collectivité and the members of his government.

“The loss of a loved one is always a heartbreaking and painful experience that leaves us grasping for answers,” the statement read. “When loved ones are taken away in such a brutal manner the loss opens a wound that is even greater because of the senselessness behind the deaths.”

“The people of Saint-Martin have always been a welcoming and nurturing people who have embraced our visitors and part-time residents. Many of these persons are active contributors to our community both economically and because of their commitment to this island which has become their second home. As fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters we can all sympathize with the pain of the family and friends of the King couple because family is such an important part of who we are.

“As president of the Collectivité of Saint-Martin I would like to join with my counterparts of country St. Maarten to assure everyone that all our resources stand ready to help the police and investigative branches in their search to uncover the perpetrators of this senseless act. This crime against the King’s is a shocking and distressing circumstance for our country and I cannot express the regret and incomprehension that we feel as a community at this loss of life.

Once again on behalf of the people of Saint-Martin and the territorial Council, I would like to express our most sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Michael and Thelma King. We wish you God’s mercy and strength to support you and console you in this time of your grief.”
