Citizen files complaint against Schotte

WILLEMSTAD – Citizen Harrie Verstappen has filed a complaint with the Public Prosecutor’s Office against outgoing Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte, the Antilliaans Dagblad reported yesterday. Verstappen wants an investigation into reports to the Reporting Center for Unusual Financial Transactions (MOT) about cash deposits Schotte made during the time before he was prime minister.

Schotte claimed earlier that these reports had been investigated, but the Public Prosecutor’s Office later denied this.

The Fundashon Akshon Sivil wrote letters about the reports to Attorney General Dick Piar and to the Tax Accountant Bureau BAB, but it did not file a criminal complaint.

Verstappen says that there are sufficient indications that the cash deposits stem from possible criminal activities like bribery and money laundering.

“A judicial investigation into the facts is a social necessity,” Verstappen states in his complaint to Piar. “Never before have there been so many complaints against ministers as during the past two years. Remarkably, the ministers, among them Gerrit Schotte, have not reacted to the content of these allegations.”
Verstappen submitted a package of 109 pages to the attorney general. Among them are copies of 50 MOT-reports linked to Schotte.
