St. Maarten – Payments for the long awaited Christmas bonus for civil servants began yesterday, Finance Minister Roland Tuitt confirmed.  The payments should have been made in the month of December. The minister apologized for the late payment but

Meanwhile, the Windward Islands Teachers Union’s suggestion that the government include the Cola payment for 2011 in the budget was not met with approval by Tuitt.

“I already told the public that the Cola costs 20 million guilders. If the union can tell me where to find 20 million guilders I will happily do it structurally.”

Tuitt said he is still doing research on what the rest of the world is doing so that he can present a proposal to the organized consultative body (GOA).
