Child smugglers get conditional sentences and community service

St. Maarten – The Court in First Instance sentenced Brebilus Février to 326 days imprisonment for smuggling Haitian children to St. Maarten between June 26 and October 17 of last year, and for forging so-called attestations d’hébergement – documents that facilitated the children’s entry into the country. Of the sentence 240 days are suspended. Février will also have to do 180 hours of community service.

The two fathers whose children Fevrier smuggled into St. Maarten were both sentenced to a conditional 4-month prison sentence and 100 hours of community service. Prosecutor mr. Dounia Benammar demanded a 6 month conditional prison sentence and 200 hours of community service against Enso Pinthieire and Jonel Parisien. Her demand against Février was 18 months, with six months suspended and 3 years of probation.
