St. Maarten – Police have arrested and detained five people for pulling necklaces and chains from the necks of pedestrians. This trend has spiked in the past few months and continued despite the arrests.
“These robberies would happen any time during the day or night. Anyone wearing jewelry could be robbed. The suspects would then flee the scene either by running away or on a scooter rider or an awaiting vehicle,” Police Spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said.
He added, “This is a trend that is presently going on and everyone should be aware that they may become of victim to this type of criminal activity and pay very close attention to their surroundings.”
