Cft-secretary Bergsma steps down, successor is Van Nieuwamerongen

St. Maarten – Mr. Geert Bergsma will step down as the secretary of the board for financial supervision Cft at the end of June, after a two-year stint. His successor is Mr. Kees van Nieuwamerongen.

The complete Cft-board will visit all five islands during a trip that will end on May 20, to introduce Van Nieuwamerongen.

The Minister of Home Affairs and Kingdom relations, Piet Hein Donner, appointed Van Nieuwamerongen per July 1 for a period of three years as the Cft’s secretary. He was suggested for the position by Cft-chairman Hans Weitenberg.

Van Nieuwamerongen worked in several management positions at the Finance Ministry in The Hague. He was head of the Antilles team between 2006 and 2009 and stood in that function at the basis of the laws that regulate the financial supervision. In 2009 he became director of administration assistance and project manager of the Audit Management guide of the health sector at the Public Health, Welfare and Sports Ministry. Van Nieuwamerongen studied economics at the Free University in Amsterdam.
