Carty praises BTP for improved service

St. Maarten – Chief Executive Officer of United Telecommunications Services (UTS) Glen Carty says there’s definite improvement in the quality of service that his company gets from its regulator – the Bureau Telecommunications and Post (BTP) St. Maarten. Prior to October 10, 2010 BTP was solely owned by the Government of the Netherlands Antilles and companies here were complaining that all it did was collect fees.

“We do have our disagreements but there is a definite improvement simply because the regulator is based here and it has a manager – Peggy Ann Brandon – who knows the issues, having been on the Board of the Telem Group of Companies,” Carty said.

The UTS CEO is pleased that the Bureau undertook scans on the cell sites to determine whether or not companies were violating frequency regulations. The data gathered will be useful when UTS attempts to stress its case to French and British regulators that companies under their control are not abiding by the rules and poaching on the territory of licensed providers here in St. Maarten.
