St. Maarten – The winners and first runner-ups in the 2011 Jr. Carnival Queen Show, the 2011 Jr. Calypso Show and the 2011 Miss St. Maarten Pageant were presented with the communication packages they won on Friday at the office of Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten. The prizes are sponsored by Bureau Telecommunications and Post and Computer City. The Bureau pays for MSi notebook computers for the winners and first runner-ups and $200 and $150 of service from a telecommunications provider for the winner and runner-up respectively. Computer City sponsors the software installation.

President of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation Stuart Johnson said it was a pleasure to award the prizes.

“You are finally getting what is yours and it is better late than never,” Johnson said as he also implored businesses to commit to sponsoring specific prizes for the carnival competitions.

Public Relations Officer for Bureau Telecommunications and Post St. Maarten Ryan Wijngaarde said the Bureau sponsored the prize package as part of its overall thrust to promote communication and the associated technology. The $200 and $150 vouchers are meant to continue for a year.

“We hope this also sets an example for other businesses to get involved in sponsoring Carnival,” Wijngaarde said.
