Caribbean Jazz summit at Port de Plaisance

St. Maarten – Under the title A Caribbean Jazz Summit Christian Amour’s Sas Smart Prod presents a concert on Saturday at Port de Plaisance with “two of the finest musicians on the jazz planet:” Mario Canonge, a piano player from Martinique and New York-born steelpan player Andy Narell.

Both musicians have a rich discography and they play together in the Caribbean jazz quartet Sakesho with Jean Philippe Fanfant and Michel Alibo.

This Saturday evening, under the tent at Port de Plaisance, Canonge plays with the CAB-trio – CAB standing for Caribbean – Africa – Brazil – with guitar player and singer Blick Bassy from Cameroun and Adriano Tenoriodd from Brazil.

Andy Narell released a new album with steel band music (Oui Ma Cherie) featuring Mike Stern, and Etienne Charles with an orchestra of 25 Elie Mannette pans.

Narell will play on Saturday together with local musicians Nikita Christmas (drums), Jerrel Seymonson (bass), Julien Seguret (percussion) and Christian Amour (piano). Specials guests are Bobo Claxton (saxophone), Carole Bayly (cello) and the Mighty Dow Isidore York (steelpan).

On Saturday Andy Narell will give a master class (Bring tour pan in harmony) for steelpan musicians at the Cultural Center in Grand Case from 9 to 11 a.m.

The evening at Port de Plaisance begins on Saturday at 8 p.m.
